Metro Fare Cards
Recently, I was working with a client, and we were organizing her bedroom and closet. As part of the process, we were also organizing her dresser drawers. Of course, everyone has a junk drawer in their bedroom. Her top dresser drawer was consumed with all of the usual suspects: glasses, kids toys, pens, pencils, business cards, key chains, and a large number of Metro Fare Cards.
It turns out that it is a big problem for a lot of people. New York City claims about $52 million dollars in lost Metro Fare Cards. Wow, that’s a lot of money thrown in the trash.
My client was very organized in her system. She always put the fare card in the same location. Which would be my first essential tip to getting your money back. Put your cards in the same location, maybe an envelope, a kitchen or closet drawer, or in my personal favorite, a hanging file properly labeled Metro Fare Cards. Unfortunately, my client did not have $52 million dollars of fare cards, but she did have $75.00 in her drawer.
We took 5 minutes to look up the Metro Fare Cards refund address on their website. Addressed the envelope to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and awaited her refund.
Now that’s what I call organizing paying for itself!
