Why Bother Organizing?

It’s a fair question: why bother organizing? Things just get messy again. Clean the kids’ rooms and five minutes later, it looks like a cyclone went through. Wash all the dishes and put them away and you just end up serving another meal and getting everything dirty again. So really, why bother organizing at all?

ORGANIZE YOUR HOME TO REDUCE STRESS

Did you know that when our brains get stressed they shrink? So when we prevent stress, we’re preventing brain shrinkage! But more than that, reducing stress is good for our health and happiness. It’s proven that clutter causes stress, so organizing your home, reducing clutter, and staying organized is good for reducing stress – which is good for your health.

HOSTING COMPANY IS EASIER WHEN YOU’RE ORGANIZED

Whether you want to have a big Super Bowl party or it’s your kid’s birthday and they want to have friends over, when our homes are messy we are often too embarrassed to have guests. Sometimes, deciding to host a party can be the motivation you need to get more organized. Clean and organize to impress your guests and create a space that you’ll be proud of hosting a party in.

BEING ORGANIZED SAVES TIME

How many times have you been late because you couldn’t find something you needed? How often have you moved the same pile of papers or clothing so that you could get to something you need? We end up wasting a lot of our lives dealing with messes and clutter, and becoming more organized frees you to have more time to do the things you enjoy, even if it’s just to curl up with a good book.

BEING ORGANIZED MAKES YOU MORE PRODUCTIVE

Whether you’re simply focused on your office organization or you expand it to your whole home, being more organized will make you more productive. You’ll spend less time re-doing things, less time searching for things, less time stressing about the messes and more time getting things done. Becoming more organized might require effort and discipline, but it can be done.

“It is not the big moves that define our lives. It is the smallest one that matter.” Mel Robbins

So why bother organizing? It’s really about quality of life. When you’re more organized, you have more time. You’ll also have more brain space – to think about – and do – the things that make you happy.
