Summer Organizing Projects - Part Two

We’ve been celebrating summer sun and fun while also taking time to share ideas about summer organizing projects that can help you enjoy your space more fully. As the summer heat kicks in, it's the perfect time to tackle projects that you’ve been postponing, but it’s also the perfect time to transform your living space into a cool and comfortable sanctuary. After all, we can’t spend every day at the beach or poolside!

Simplify Cleaning with a Schedule

No one wants to do housework when there is fun to be had, so create a housework schedule that works for you. One of the best summer organizing projects you can do is create a cleaning schedule. Some things need regular attention, like dishes and laundry. Other things can be done every week or two, like cleaning the bathroom and dusting. Once you’ve identified what needs to be done, think about when it’s easiest for you to make it happen – some people like to get up and get chores out f the way; others prefer to end their day bringing order to chaos.

Delegate Housework Chores

The kids are home for the summer and can definitely be helping out more, and when it comes to summer organizing, everyone in the house should help keep it clean and decluttered. If everyone just put away the things they got out, it would make an enormous difference in the amount of clutter in your home. Make sure everyone plays a part in keeping the place clean.

Let Go of Perfectionism

Having a clean home is awesome, but spending time with your family and fully being present in every moment you have with them is more important. The dust will wait.

Refresh Linens

Nothing kills a nice summer night than crawling into bed under a 20-pound duvet. One of the best ways to create a cool and comfortable space is to rotate out winter linens for summer linens. Wash and dry winter blankets, comforters, and flannel sheets and store them in a bin. Replace them with lighter, summery versions that are more comfortable for sleeping. When it comes to summer bedding, opt for breathable materials that promote airflow and keep you cool during hot nights. Cotton and linen are excellent choices as they are lightweight, moisture-wicking, and naturally breathable. Look for duvet covers, sheets, and pillowcases made from these materials to create a comfortable and inviting sleep environment. Choose lighter colors and patterns that evoke a sense of freshness and relaxation.

Keep the Clutter at Bay by Swapping Décor

Summer organizing is easier if there’s not too much clutter, so instead of just adding to what you already  have, consider giving your home a summer makeover by swapping out throw pillows, accent pieces, and other décor with summer designs. From brighter colors to a fun change of décor, you can give your home a welcome transformation.

Make Outdoor Spaces More Welcoming

We all tend to spend more time outside during the nicer weather, and one of the most important summer organizing projects you can tackle is to make your outdoor space inviting and usable.

  • Start by power washing outdoor surfaces.

  • Regularly mow the lawn, trim overgrown hedges or bushes, and remove weeds.

  • Water plants and flowers consistently, taking care not to over or under-water.

  • Consider adding mulch to garden beds to retain moisture and prevent weed growth.

  • Clean and inspect outdoor furniture.

How to Create an Inviting Outdoor Entertaining Area

A fun summer organizing project is to create an inviting outdoor entertaining area. Choose a space you can dedicate to dining and visiting and use outdoor rugs and furniture to create an inviting space. Add citronella candles, a grill, and some fun summer décor to make the space more inviting.

Summer organizing projects that transform your space into a fun summer oasis can make the entire season more enjoyable and give you excuses to have guests so that you can show off your newly decorated spaces. Grab some meat and vegetables to throw on the barbecue and throw together a potato salad and you’re ready to host some backyard fun! From decluttering and organizing to refreshing your bedding and embarking on DIY home decor projects, there are plenty of ways to give your living space a refreshing makeover this season.
