Organization Is All in The Mind
The title might be glib, but there is truth to it. In order to be organized, you must first change your mindset. The first steps to organization are all in the mind.
THERE ARE MANY WAYS YOU NEED TO ADDRESS HOW YOUR MIND CONSIDERS ORGANIZATION.
Being organized does not mean the same thing to everyone.
One person’s clutter is another person’s comfort.
If you’re challenged with ADHD, a hoarding disorder, or other organizational challenges, success may look different for you than a neurotypical person.
How others judge your organization is not nearly important as how you can function and how you see your organization.
So, yes, organizing is very much in the mind.
ORGANIZATION IS ALL ABOUT MINDSET
The challenges we help clients overcome aren’t all about – or even mostly about – finding the right containers to hold all of your stuff. First it’s about
Eliminating overwhelm. If you look around and think, “I’ll never be able to get organized!” then the first clutter you have to deal with is what’s in your mind.
Emotional attachment. If you struggle to remove things from your life or home because emotion has you weighed down, you have to learn how to recognize why you feel the way you feel and how to honor those feelings before you can move on to actually organizing anything.
Learning to embrace your own system. We can come in and give you an organizing system and organize your space. But if it doesn’t work for you – for example, if not seeing the bills sitting on the table means they just never get paid – then we have failed. Part of addressing the mindset of organization is helping you find systems that work for you. It doesn’t matter if they work for anyone else.
