Organize Your Home For The New Year Now

We made it. It might feel like we’re still on shaky ground, but we make it through the year. To get the New Year started off right, here are some things you can do to organize your home, your mind, and your life.

REVIEW WHAT’S NEW

If you received gifts over the holidays, you may need to review what you’ve received to determine how to organize your home in the New Year to make space. Do you need to donate old items that the gifts are intended to replace? Do you need to rearrange how you display or store items to make room for the new?

CONSIDER YOUR GOALS

You don’t have to have New Year resolutions. But you should set goals for yourself, your home, and your year. What do you want to accomplish this year? Do you want to be more organized? Are you seeking a calmer, less stressful life experience? Do you feel overwhelmed by clutter? Now is a great time to think about where your biggest stressors are. Maybe it’s this one.

READ A BOOK ABOUT ORGANIZING

The Maniacs Book Club has featured a number of great books that help with everything from organizing to stress management to ADHD and hoarding. Authors Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin have a new book, The Home Edit Life: The No-Guilt Guide to Owning What You Want and Organizing Everything that is a perfect choice for organizing your home in the New Year.

GET RID OF STUFF

If you’re entering yet another year holding on to stuff that clutters your home and your life but doesn’t give you any joy, it’s time to get rid of it. Whether it’s clothes you’re hoping to wear this year or the duplicate kitchen tools you’re keeping “just in case one breaks,” it’s time to start getting rid of things it no longer makes sense to keep – even the gifts that really aren’t things you wanted or needed.

PICK ONE PROJECT

To organize your home for the New Year, pick one project. Then focus on taking steps in completing that one project, whether it takes two hours or two months. And as always, if you need help, get in touch – that’s what we’re here for.
