5 Tips For Organizing Gardening Tools and Supplies

Not everything you need to organize is inside your home. In fact, have you ever headed to a store to buy a new gardening tool, only to get home and realize you already have one? You need these tips for organizing your gardening tools and supplies!

GATHER ALL YOUR GARDENING TOOLS IN ONE PLACE

Before you go buying any more duplicate gardening tools, take a quick inventory of what you already have. Depending on the type of gardening you do, you may have a limited amount of gardening tools or an extensive supply. Be sure to check utility closets, sheds, and the garage to make sure you’ve accounted for everything.

INSPECT GARDENING TOOLS FOR DAMAGE

Take a close look at your gardening tools to make sure they are in safe working condition. Throw out what is no longer functional and make a note if it is something you need to replace. Sort what you do have between long-handled tools and smaller tools, seeds, and other supplies, like gloves, boots, and kneeling pads.

CHOOSE A STORAGE LOCATION

Ideally, you should store all of your tools together, either in a shed or in your garage. If you have a table you use for potting plants and starting seedlings, near that area may be most logical.

CREATE STORAGE OPTIONS

Whether you buy a bin to put your tools in or hang peg board on the garage wall to hang your tools, the idea behind organization is to do what works best for you. If you have a lot of long-handed tools, hanging them from nails along the garage wall might make the most sense. If you do a lot of gardening or have a large yard, you may want a bin in which you can carry seeds and gloves to the part of the yard you’re working on.

CLEAN UP YOUR TOOLS

Some tools may need sharpened. Others may need cleaned. You may discover that you need to purchase or replace a tool. A little care each season can extend the life of your tools greatly.

Gardening can be a fun hobby, but it is more fun when you don’t have to go searching for the tools you need every time you go outside. Organizing your gardening tools can help you do more of what you enjoy. You’ll also spend less time and money stressing over your gardening.
