Organization Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect – and Neither Do We!

We all have lots of reasons for not being as organized as we want to be, whether it’s our homes, our lives, our cars, our offices, or even our thoughts. We’re busy; we’re overwhelmed; we’re procratinators. But the one thing that seems to hold people back more than anything is this fear of not being able to create perfection. So many of us freeze at the idea of taking steps towards being more organized because we think it has to be perfect.
We don’t have to be perfect!
It can be really difficult to just organize one drawer and not feel like you have to organize them all by the end of the same day. But if we stop worrying about being perfect and instead, realize that every little step we take toward decluttering or organizing our lives is worthwhile and can reduce our overall stress.
Delayed decision making is what keeps a lot of our clients stuck and disorganized.
Don’t get stuck! Start with a place that bothers you the most – a room in your basement, a shelf in the garage, a “junk” drawer….Spend 15 minutes (or less, if it gets overwhelming) just pulling out the stuff you know you can (or should) throw away or donate.
Being successful with organization and decluttering starts with nothing more than a willingness to make a change and experience something new. I get it – change is hard. I don’t like change and really resist it at times, but I have also seen what happens to a person when they let go of perfection and simply make one small change. I’ve seen how one small organizing or decluttering project has reduced stress and added happiness.
So I urge you – give up the idea of achieving perfection. Instead, try making a little change and see what happens.
