8 Small Organizing Rules that Make a BIG Difference
Creating an organized space can be daunting, especially if everywhere you look, all you see is clutter. Don’t be too hard on yourself, because we’ve all been there! Sometimes the things we own get out of control, but it’s possible to take that control back. To be the master of your house, just abide by these 8 small organizing rules, and you’ll be well on your way to an organized living space.
- Make the bed.
It doesn’t have to be pretty, with every throw pillow fluffed and placed perfectly. However, making the bed can make an enormous difference visually in your bedroom and inspire you to keep the rest of the space looking equally tidy.
- Move paper along.
Don’t let that stack of papers build into a mountain. File incoming papers as soon as they hit your counter, so that you aren’t searching for important paperwork later. This also lets you trash the junk mail as necessary.
- Keep clothes off the floor.
It can be so tempting when you’re running late to change your mind about an outfit and toss one shirt on the floor in favor of another. Unfortunately, too many days of this and you’ve got piles of laundry, and who knows what’s clean and what’s dirty. Keep clothes where they belong and minimize the mess.
- Take out the trash.
There’s never a reason to have trash hanging around. If it means keeping a trash can in every room as a reminder, then make it happen.
- Go paperless.
What really helps minimize the paper bills is to go electronic. Set your statements to paperless and go for automatic payments, and you’ll reduce the clutter in your home.
- Use labels.
Labels are an organizer’s best friend. Label everything that is helpful to you, from kitchen cabinets to bathroom storage.
- Create a donation bag/box/bin.
If you realize you don’t need or want something, have a designated donation box. Once the box is full, take it to the secondhand store or drop-off location of your choosing.
- Sweep daily.
You don’t realize how much dirt gets tracked from outside or the crumbs that get dropped from each meal. Sweeping daily minimizes the dirt and dust throughout your house and makes your big cleaning days much easier.
There’s no one way of doing things to stay organized, but these 8 small organizing rules are ones to live by. They take very little time out of your day and they give you time to focus on other things. Small steps are how you take big leaps into an organized lifestyle.
