The title alone gives you a hint as to why we had to read this book: Here’s to Not Catching Our Hair on Fire: An Absent-Minded Tale of Life with Giftedness and Attention Deficit – Oh Look! A Chicken! by Stacey Turis is a hysterical, eye-opening, entertaining memoir of the crazy antics that surround living with ADHD.

“But until everyone is allowed to be, and most importantly, celebrated for being the people they were destined to be, the doors leading to some of our most important riches and discoveries will remain tightly locked.”

Turis describes a professional career filled with lots of jobs and twenty-seven unsuccessful businesses. She credits passion and creativity with the creation of most of the businesses, and blames boredom with implementation and details the demise of all of them. Many of our clients struggle with the same issues and often embark in a variety of professions and hobbies. There is no lack of ideas and creativity; however, the problem usually lies in the implementation of time management that allows for the development of the ideas and creates sustainability over time.

Maniac Takeaway

This book is a great read for all types of people. Those diagnosed with ADHD will find the book normalizes the everyday challenges they face. Many argue that ADHD is not a “disorder” at all, but instead a characteristic to embrace and celebrate. By finding and focusing on strengths instead of weaknesses, a person can live a fulfilled, healthy life despite an ADHD diagnosis.
