Happy Splurge Day!

Yes, you heard that right, we said Splurge. We Professional Organizers may be notorious for purging, sorting, and labeling, but we’re people, too, and we splurge occasionally. Just as it is with any organizational strategy, the key is to make smart, deliberate choices. Splurging too often can create a clutter nightmare or wreak havoc on your time management. Never splurging doesn’t allow you to reward yourself for all the hard work you do. So how do the Maniacs splurge? Read on to find out.

 Cris:

What’s your Splurge?

I am splurging on Hello Fresh.  It is a food delivery service.  Once a week, I get a box with the ingredients to make 3 meals.  They are healthy and different, and I am trying lots of ingredients, we would of never tried. I feel like I am eating a lot better, and I am totally in love with the service.

Why this Splurge?

I did it because I was tired of eating the same meals all the time.  Bradley cooks, but sometimes he is just not in the mood.

Julie:

What’s your Splurge?

My biggest splurge was a plane ticket to Europe. Also, I splurge on expensive, quality fabric from fancy fabric stores.

Why this Splurge?

I enjoy traveling more than I like getting stuff.   The experience is far better than anything I could purchase. The fabric, that’s my passion. You have to splurge on your passion every once in a while.

Stephanie:

What’s your Splurge?

Books! There’s never a limit to the number of books I let my nieces and nephew pick out to buy or the number of books I bring home for myself.  My trips to the Reston Used Book Store are extensive and occasionally expensive as well.

Why this Splurge?

For me, literacy and knowledge are important enough to encourage without immediate thought to clutter.  However, to balance it out I try to get books from the library or used book store then donate or sell them back as much as possible.  It keeps the clutter down and keeps the books available for even more people to have access to!

Wendy:

What’s your Splurge?

My splurge is jewelry. It’s fun to be able to completely change an outfit with a simple switch of jewelry. It’s not about expensive pieces, but rather things that make me happy when I see and wear them. I also love to buy pieces when I travel with my family.

Why this Splurge?

When I wear the ring or pendant I purchased on a vacation, it brings back memories of a fun trip.  Also, jewelry is small so it doesn’t take up too much room or clutter a shelf like other mementos can.

Alex Phillips:

What’s your Splurge?

I spurge on tea! I splurge in two ways that don’t always happen at the same time. I splurge in that I have many varieties of tea and I still buy more (quantity), and I splurge in the cost of certain teas(quality), although my favorite tea ever is SUPER cheap!

Why this Splurge?

For one very simple reason – Because I like it. Also, it’s like I have a connection with different places through drinking their teas. It’s traveling in your mind and from the comfort of my favorite green chair.

Happy Organizing!
